Peter Hamilton is a New York-based expert in the business of TV and film production. He is a senior consultant on TV production to documentary and reality television producers. Peter is the founder/editor/publisher of the weekly newsletter ‘DocumentaryTelevision.com’ that serves reality television production companies and networks by providing television industry analysis.

His newsletter has evolved into a TV production company. He is the co-EP of THE SHOT FELT AROUND THE WORLD, the story of Jonas Salk and his polio vaccine that will be broadcast in April 2013 as a primetime TV and film production special on the Smithsonian Channel (US). Bill Gates recently agreed to appear in this TV production. Peter is working with the network television industry to create new TV production business plans, including on webinar projects that focus on TV production budget templates.

Peter is a former business development executive with CBS Enterprises. His clients have included TV production commissioners and funders such as: Discovery Communications, A+E Television Networks, Smithsonian Channel, CBS, NBC, BBC, Scripps Networks, Weather Channel, Travel Channel, CBC Canada, ABC Australia, Vulcan Foundation and many others.

He is a frequent speaker about television production budgets at leading media industry events, including MIPDoc, Real Screen, Sunnyside of the Doc, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Hot Docs, Westdoc, Science & Factual Producers’ Congress and AIDC.

Peter leads workshops that focus on business strategy for network executives and TV producers, most recently at the Sorbonne University for a Colloquium of French TV and film production companies and documentary TV channels.

For established TV production companies as well as newcomers to television production, Peter Hamilton assesses reality TV concepts, undertakes market studies, creates business plans, identifies partners, develops marketing and distribution strategies, and actively contributes to their successful implementation. His firm has helped plan and launch dozens of networks worldwide that work closely with television production companies.

Peter Hamilton has authored several books that are valued by TV production industry professionals and students, including the classic Off-Hollywood: The Making and Marketing of Independent Films (David Rosen, co-author, in association with The Sundance Institute and the Independent Feature Project). The book includes a useful television production budget template.
